The course in Chemistry with Materials (Honours) will equip you with a broad and balanced appreciation of the core areas of chemistry; ranging from inorganic, organic, physical and analytical chemistry, to computational chemistry, macromolecular chemistry and photochemistry, to name a few. During the course, students will gain a basic knowledge of materials science and technology. You will be provided with a range of practical skills in the main areas of chemistry in order to understand and assess risks and work safely in a chemical laboratory. Your inclined skill set and knowledge will proceed them to graduate or further their studies in chemistry or a multi-disciplinary area involving chemistry. Participation in the Erasmus+ mobility programme for a more diverse and multicultural academic journey is encouraged by the department. In your final year, you will be able to demonstrate your knowledge by carrying out a research-based dissertation.
The communication and academic skills programme complements students’ main course of study. It introduces them to writing and presenting as situated within academic contexts sensitive to specific disciplines and develops their competences for future careers.
A pass at Advanced Level at Grade C or better in Chemistry and a pass at Intermediate Level at Grade C or better in either Physics or Pure Mathematics.
